Presentations

(Monday, 7/30/2018) 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Room: Davidson Ballroom B

Electronic brachytherapy has seen the development of more formalized dosimetry and quality management recommendations through the workings of three AAPM Task Groups (TG 182, TG 253 and TG 292). This educational session informs AAPM members of the different technologies, applications, safety requirements and dosimetry calculations. TG 182 members have developed new in-depth quality management analyses according to the methods of TG 100 for several electronic brachytherapy systems. These informative methods are a hallmark example of TG-100 applicability. Electronic brachytherapy is sometimes used for surface applications; TG 253 members have developed the necessary dosimetry framework for dosimetry calculations and accompanying QA methods. For the interstitial, intracavitary, and intraluminary applications, TG 292 members are presently working on dosimetry standardization for the systems currently available in the U.S. In addition to the work of these three AAPM task groups, a variety of new research has been published and more is on the way. In this session, the organizers present practical information on the applications, safety aspects and dosimetry techniques of electronic brachytherapy.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the current status of AAPM TG 182 on electronic brachytherapy quality management
2. Understand the current status of AAPM TG 253 on surface brachytherapy
3. Understand the current status of AAPM TG 292 on electronic brachytherapy dosimetry
