Purpose: By comparing the results of three different dose algorithms in the Elekta treatment planning system(TPS) to guide clinical application.
Methods: Monte Carlo (MC) was compared with the Pencil Beam(PB) algorithm and the collapsed-cone convolution (CCC) algorithm implemented by three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) in the Elekta treatment planning system (TPS). Multilayer slab virtual phantoms were used for this study. The multilayer slab phantom had four different materials, representing soft tissue, bone, lung and tumour. Under the same premise of field direction, energy, MU and other conditions using different algorithms to optimize the treatment plan. Analyzing the PTV dose and OARs dose of three algorithms.
Results: The average target dose was 0.5 cGy lower than the CCC algorithm and 1cGy lower than PB algorithm. The spinal cord dose was 0.1cGy higher than the CCC algorithm and 0.6cGy higher than PB algorithm.
Conclusion: It is recommended to use a more accurate algorithm for the radiotherapy planning of lung cancer , Monte Carlo is more accurate than other algorithms.
