Because surface imaging is becoming a prevalent technology on many treatment machines, its clinical applications are expanding. One such application that has not yet been presented at AAPM is quality improvement. Surface imaging allows clinics to track immobilization, verify patient identity prior to treatment, identify setup challenges, and improve workflow efficiency for a variety of treatment sites.
Specifically, this session will focus on quality improvement applications of surface imaging to:
a) Improve clinical treatment efficiency
b) Develop a collision prediction algorithm
c) Automate patient recognition
d) Verify accuracy of patient-specific device list and position
e) Surface imaging to inform statistical process control for SRS treatments
This lecture will describe the use of surface imaging for the various applications above. Speakers will be asked to present clinical data to support the claim that surface imaging improves clinical quality or has the potential to do so for future developments. In addition, data to support their claims from the literature will be emphasized. This presentation will remain agnostic to vendor type and as such includes speakers with experience from each of the 3 main surface imaging vendors.
Learning Objectives:
1) Introduce surface imaging as a quality improvement tool
2) Review current quality improvement applications of surface imaging
3) Discuss potential future quality improvement applications of surface imaging
