Presentations

(Tuesday, 7/31/2018) 1:45 PM - 3:45 PM

Room: Room 205

Three presentations will focus on advancing areas of ultrasound breast imaging and interventions.

The first will present the emerging paradigm of coherent ultrasound transmission tomography of the whole breast and explain its advantages in detecting and characterizing breast masses. Quantitative images of multiple tissue properties are achieved at greatly increased resolution, considering the low frequencies employed.

The second presentation will describe innovations in ultrasound breast cancer imaging for diagnosis, disease progression monitoring as well as treatment response evaluation. Innovations such as ultrasound-based microvasculature imaging without using contrast agent and viscoelastography will be presented.

The third presentation will review recent advances in image-guided breast biopsy, including freehand ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, stereotactic and tomosynthesis-guided breast biopsy, and MRI-guided breast biopsy. Physical principles will be reviewed. Performance testing will be described. A comparison of pros and cons of these breast biopsy technologies will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the basics of the emerging technology of coherent ultrasound transmission tomography in breast cancer detection.
2. Understand the innovations in ultrasound breast cancer imaging including ultrasound-based microvasculature imaging and viscoelastography.
3. Understand various image-guided breast biopsy systems in clinical applications.
