Medical physics has undergone an evolution of increasing professional expansion and autonomy, benefiting both practitioners and patients, but exposing clinical physicists to increased risk. Advances in technology have amplified the potential damage that can result from simple errors that propagate. Medical physicists have been subjected to liability lawsuits exceeding $2 million in a single judgment or settlement, and proactive risk management can result in better patient safety and outcomes as well as increased peace of mind and career and financial security for the medical physicist. AAPM's insurance industry partner,Medical Protective will share an overview of claims related to medical physics practice and provide risk management strategies that have proven effective for physicians and other health and technology professionals in the wake of 'shock losses' like those medical physicists have experienced recently.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe trends in healthcare and medical physics that have increased risk incrementally in recent years.
2. Explain proactive risk management strategies to simultaneously improve patient outcomes and reduce financial risk
