Fluoroscopy is a powerful tool that has been used over the past century in many medical disciplines. Fluoroscopy guided intervention (FGI) refers to specific uses of fluoroscopy where devices or instruments are inserted through the skin (i.e., percutaneously) and use fluoroscopy to provide imaging guidance to complete a medical procedure. Fluoroscopy guided interventional procedures are performed frequently throughout the world. While the benefits of imaging-guided procedures to patients are well documented, many of these procedures have the potential to expose the patient to high doses of radiation, which can result in skin injury. The team (Interventional Radiologist, Medical Physicist, and Radiologic Technologists) performing these procedures continually seek ways to minimize the risk from the radiation while preserving the benefits from the fluoroscopy imaging. Radiation doses during these procedures are affected by many factors, including technique selection, patient size, type of examination, and equipment. In addition, these factors can be difficult to collect and quantify. As a result, today’s complex fluoroscopy guided interventional procedures demand an intelligent fluoroscopy dose management system, which uses a data-driven approach that includes data collection of the dose metrics, analysis, and feedback to assist the team in finding an optimal balance between the benefits and risks of the procedure.

Therefore, the purpose of this session is to allow vendors to present their solutions and describe how their product can empower the clinician and supporting staff to make more informed decisions relating to dose management towards minimization of risk during fluoroscopy guided procedures.
