Consistent with the policy of continuous quality improvement (CQI) is the goal of improving the quality of teaching of medical physics to graduate students and residents. However, in order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to understand the meaning of “quality when applied to education, and identify methods for measuring quality. There is no agreement at present as to what metrics are appropriate to assess quality of an educational program. In this Symposium, several such metrics will be presented and critiqued. Examples from didactic and clinical medical physics programs will be given.
Learning Objectives:
1. To present several definitions of the phrase “quality of education
2. To identify and evaluate methods for assessing quality of education
3. To apply these methods to assess the quality of a didactic educational medical physics program
4. To apply these methods to assess the quality of a clinical medical physics training program
