Recent advances in image-guided interventions are having major impact in surgery and interventional radiology. Such advances include the incorporation of emerging imaging technologies, integration of multi-modality image information, deformable registration methods, integration with endoscopy / laparoscopy and other computer vision systems, and emerging robotics platforms. This symposium presents the latest research in each area: Dr. Siewerdsen in intraoperative imaging and registration for neurological and orthopaedic spine surgery; Dr. Cleary in the development of new image-guided surgical robotics; Dr. Miga in novel deformable registration methods for image-guided procedures in soft-tissue surgeries; and Dr. Paydarfar in emerging technologies for otolaryngology - head and neck surgery. Potential advantages to precision and safety are reviewed, and challenges of cost, complexity, and workflow are addressed.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how advances in intraoperative imaging and registration are enabling high-precision intervention in spine and orthopaedic surgery.
2. Learn how emerging surgical robotic systems are addressing specific needs in a broad range of surgical interventions.
3. Learn how model-based deformable image registration can improve precision in soft-tissue surgeries ranging from the liver and kidney to brain.
4. Learn how emerging imaging and visualization methods are advancing the the standard of care in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery.

Funding Support, Disclosures, and Conflict of Interest: The presenters hereby disclose research support, licensing, and/or advisory board relationships with corporate entities contributing to the material presented in this symposium. Contributing concerns include, but are not limited to, Siemens Healthineers, Medtronic, Elekta Oncology, and Pathfinder. Full and specific disclosures are provided individually with each presentation.
