Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a digital CT scanner model of Unite Image U760 for Monte Carlo(MC) simulation and validate it.

Methods: Half-Value Layer (HVL) in aluminum and air kerma along the principal axes of the isocenter plane perpendicular to the beam were measured of the CT scanner without the bowtie-filter (BWF), four different tube voltage (80kVp\100kVp\120kVp\140kVp) of the CT scanner was investigated respectively .Third-party software, Spektr, were used to generate the equivalent spectrum based on HVL1 and HVL2 of the corresponding tube voltage. Filtration data for BWF provided by scanner’s manufacturer. And the MC simulations using the scanner model were evaluated by comparing the accuracy of simulated both central and peripheral CT dose index (CTDI) to measured CTDI values available on head CTDI phantom (16cm in diameter) and body CTDI phantom (32 cm in diameter) for each kVp and bowtie filter combination.

Results: There was an average root mean square (RMS) error between the measured and simulated values of CTDIvol approximately 4.88% for body BWF and 2.13% for head BWF across all kVp and collimation combinations.

Conclusion: The CT scanner model developed using measured HVL values and parameters from manufacture has demonstrated its ability to produce highly accurate simulations over a wide range of tube voltage and bowtie filter combinations. The latter of these studies will specifically involve performing combined source model simulations to estimate organ doses from this scanners for a number of different patient models.
