Purpose: In the current study, HfO2 were synthesized and doped with Europium and its structural, Morphological, optical and Spectroscopic characteristic were analyzed using various techniques and its dosimetric application in radiotherapy were characterized using 10MV photon beam.
Methods: Pure and Eu3+ doped HfO2 NPs with different Eu concentration (2.5-10% in weight) were prepared by precipitation and co-precipitation methods were characterized using X-ray diffraction, SEM-EDX, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy and pellets were formed by hydraulic compressor which was irradiated using 10 MV photon beams.
Results: Crystalline characteristics of pure and Eu3+ doped HfO2 powder were obtained by the precipitation method and co-precipitation methods and calcined at 800°C for 2 hrs in air. The XRD spectrum of crystalline HfO2 NPs in good agreement with the standard JPCDS. The particle size, composition and morphology of the synthesized NPs have been examined using FESEM-EDAX.The optical properties of HfO2 NPs were studied using UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy to measure the optical band gap of Pure and doped HfO2 NPs. The vibration state of atomic bonds in molecule were determined using FTIR measurements and Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the samples to analyses the Raman band for monoclinic to cubic phase transformation which are correlates with XRD results. The dosimetric characterization of synthesized Eu doped HfO2 were carried out using 10 MV photon beam for its photon dose response, linearity, reproducibility, fading and sensitivity.
Conclusion: Eu doped HfO2, shows linear dose response, high reproducibility and sensitivity for 10MV photon beam and can be used as an alternative TL dosimeter in radiotherapeutic application.
