Purpose: To investigate the quality of a method of deformable registration based gradient between CT and kilovolt (KV) cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT).
Methods: one head and neck patient and two chest patients treated with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) or intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT)was enrolled in our studies. All of the patients had the CT and daily CBCT images. Then, the gradient based deformable registration was performed to investigate the feasibility and quality between CT and CBCT.
Results: As a result, the mean error (standard deviation) was 1.06 (0.73) mm, 1.15 (0.76) mm, and 1.51 (0.84) mm, respectively. In contrast with other registration, gradient-based deformable registration was more accuracy and efficient.
Conclusion: The gradient-based deformable registration has the potential to meet the need for image guide radiotherapy and adaptive radiotherapy for its more accuracy and efficiental gorithm.
