Room: 221CD
This is the 2nd session of three in the AAPM-ISMRM MRI safety symposium series. This session will focus on implementing MR safety in day-to-day clinical operations. As a non-ionizing imaging modality with a variety of contrast mechanisms, MRI remains one of the safest modalities for assessing patients for a variety of indications from diagnosis to treatment guidance, when the potential threats of injury from the magnetic fields associated with these systems are properly managed. To this end, there is a strong safety culture in the MR community which constantly engages in process improvement and responds rapidly to MR safety events in an effort to improve safety programs. Accreditation programs and imaging societies recognize the need for strong safety programs in order to have effective safety management for patients, hospital staff, and any member of the public that may need to be in the MR environment. Defined and accountable roles are one of the ingredients to an effective safety program. In this session, the emerging concepts regarding roles of different MR personnel that may be tasked specifically with MR safety management in terms of defining, overseeing, executing an effective MR safety program are introduced and discussed.
Learning Objectives:
1. Overview & discuss the roles, responsibilities and expectations of MR Safety Officers (MRSO)
2. Overview & discuss the roles, responsibilities and expectations of MR Medical Directors (MRMD)
3. Overview & discuss the roles, responsibilities and expectations of MR Safety Experts (MRSE)
