Low risk of radioactive contamination from cremation when proper safety procedures followed

A recent JAMA publication, which described the cremation of patient remains containing a radioactive material, garnered considerable media attention and may have alarmed some members of the general public. The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and the American College of Radiology (ACR) would like to share the following key points to put the topic into better perspective:
