Presentations

(Tuesday, 7/14/2020) 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM [Eastern Time (GMT-4)]

Room: Track 4

Implementation and assessment of quality control (QC) at a site performing mammography used to be limited to the equipment physically located at that site. As the healthcare industry evolves, to keep pace with rapid digital advancements and their impact on human behaviors, we are experiencing a movement towards multi-geographical health care models. These growth and acquisition patterns result in a complex network of equipment and individuals that many times must be captured under a single comprehensive QC program. The quest to develop such a program lends itself to a unique set of organizational inquiries and challenges.

This session will review regulatory and accrediting bodies’ continuing efforts and expectations towards the maintenance and improvement of breast imaging programs across the country. Talks will focus on the new ACR DMQC manual and the FDA’s enhancing quality using the inspection program (EQUIP) initiative. The application of programs such as these within clinical medical physics practice may serve as the vehicle for the building of a successful multi-geographic comprehensive QC program.

Learning Objectives:
1. To discuss the experience of one enterprise in transitioning to the ACR DMQC manual and to address implementation strategies and potential pitfalls for an enterprise initiative
2. To review the MQSA EQUIP initiative and discuss methods by which the medical physicist can assist in making this an efficient and effective process.
3. To describe strategies for the effective management of quality across multiple-centers.
