Room: Track 7
The session offered at this year’s virtual online meeting as part of the Partners in Solutions is intended for physicists who are responsible for quality control and image quality in diagnostic imaging. To continuously improve quality and safety of patient care, accreditation organizations such as the Joint Commission (TJC) and American College of Radiology (ACR) have provided accreditations and set quality control (QC) guidelines for many types of health care organizations, including hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing homes, office-based surgery centers, behavioral health treatment facilities, and providers of home care services. Since 2008, Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) requires advanced imaging modalities to be accredited, and this requirement is also followed by many insurance companies. As of today ACR has accredited more than 39,000 facilities in 10 imaging modalities (Mammography, CT, MRI, Breast MRI, Nuclear Medicine and PET, Ultrasound, Breast Ultrasound, and Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, etc.). The QC components of accreditations involve routine extensive equipment testing and data analysis by a qualified medical physicist or technologist. Since some of these tasks are repetitive and laborious if they are done manually, it would be desirable that some if not all of these can be done automatically through software utilization.
Over the years, several phantom/software/tools have been developed to perform QA tasks. The purpose of this session is to allow vendors to present their current QA phantom//tool/software for diagnostic imaging modalities. Specifically this vendor offered session is being done to cover specific ACR/TJC phantom QA testing/data analysis for diagnostic imaging modalities and medical display QA.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand TJC/ACR accreditation imaging physics QA requirements;
2. Learn commercially available phantom/analysis tools
3. Understand ACR, AAPM TG-18 QA requirements for medical display, and available QA/tool solutions.
