Room: Track 6
CAMPEP standards for residency curriculum include an extensive list of professionalism, leadership, and ethics topics to be included in the short two-year residency program. For a limited number of topics, online education modules are provided by AAPM/RSNA and are often utilized by programs. For several of the topics on professionalism and leadership, there is no accepted or universal curriculum established, and programs need to create and determine how to effectively teach these soft skills topics.
In this session, speakers from residency programs will present how they have created curriculum to teach soft skills. The first presentation will focus on how professionalism and business topics are taught to a mixed audience of medical physics residents and radiation oncology residents. The second presentation will cover how existing opportunities are used in combination with in-house curriculum to teach soft skills to medical physics residents. The presentations will be followed by an interactive hands-on session.
The overall goal for the session is to present how other programs have formalized their training on soft skills so that audience members can come away ideas for training that they can use in their own institution.
This session logically follows and complements the preceding session “Professionalism and soft skills in residency: Finding a happy medium between didactic instruction and self-directed learning?”
Learning Objectives:
1. To understand how residency programs have implemented formal training of soft skills
2. To experience working through example methods in a small group
3. To acquire a sample list of training ideas to implement in your own residency program
