Room: Track 6
Many organizations and individuals support international activities related to medical physics and radiation oncology in Low-to-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). For example, the AAPM is currently supporting several internationally focused educational and professional activities including the AAPM/IOMP Equipment Donation Program. Some organizations have been working in the international arena for over half a century, some are relative newcomers, and many fall between these two extremes. Limited awareness of and communication between these groups can lead to duplication of effort and inefficient use of limited resources. Through learning about the activities and efforts of the various organizational activities, we can start to “bend” silos and more effectively collaborate to maximize the resources available for international support efforts.
This session will provide insight into different types of organizations participating in international activities, the perspective of physicists working in LMICs, and both the challenges and successes of international efforts.
Learning Objectives:
1. Learn about the activities of organizations that work in the international arena
2. Gain insight into the challenges to the success of global health initiatives
3. Continue the dialog to discuss opportunities for successful collaboration with respect to international support activities
