Purpose: Children are at higher risk of radiation than adults, the selection of examination methods for children and the control of radiation dose deserves attention. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the current situation of radiation protection in CT examination of children in China and to summarize the methods of reducing X-ray dose in pediatric CT examination, with the hope of effectively reducing the impact of X-ray radiation on children.
Methods: In this abstract, we collected studies of pediatric CT examination in China over the last 10 years. Radiation dose, factors influencing radiation dose and progress in CT examination were summarized and reviewed.
Results: The factors influencing radiation dose of children's CT examination included the operator's factors, the subjects' own factors, the scanning parameters of CT system (tube current, tube voltage, iterative reconstruction technology, linear collimation, speed of scanning table, pitch, etc.) and radiation protection factors (effective protections, pediatric CT guidelines), etc.
Conclusion: With the improvement of CT technique, attention should be paid to the effect of radiation dose on patients, especially children who are sensitive to radiation. Operational procedures should be strictly followed. CT scan parameters should be optimized to effectively reduce the impact of X-ray radiation on radiation technologists and subjects.
