MPLA Communication Workshop

J Johnson1*, (1) Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Houston, TX

Presentations

(Saturday, 4/4/2020) 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM [Mountain Time (GMT-6)]

Two of the top ten cited global leadership qualities involve communication: leaders (1) clearly communicate expectations and (2) communicate often and openly. The former relates to strong ethics and safety, while the latter relates to connection and belonging. So while communication can be used for different purposes and take different forms, both aspects are essential for human communication. Communication is a key building block for leadership and collaboration, which will increase in value as the world embraces AI.

In this session, MPLA will peer-coach participants on the best practices for effective communication, focusing primarily on verbal communication, Participants will practice in small groups using common approaches from consulting firms, advertising, and Hollywood.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand how communication continues to be an important skill in the age of AI.
2. Experiment in applying three approaches to professional situations.
3. Adapt essential communication skills in their own environments.
