Dual-energy CT expands the function of conventional CT imaging by providing enhanced material quantification and differentiation capabilities. It also can improve CT image quality by reducing beam-hardening artifact. These new features create many dual-energy CT applications, which provide new or more accurate information to improve diagnosis. Dual-energy CT protocols highly depend on dual-energy CT platforms. The implement of dual-energy CT imaging in clinical practice relies on accurate understanding of its physics and related issues. This session will highlight the physics and clinical applications of Dual-energy CT.

Portable CT scanners and fluoroscopy systems capable of CBCT acquisitions are becoming more common, especially in surgical applications. These systems present many unique challenges including: regulatory classification and corresponding expectations, radiation safety scatter characteristics and operation recommendations, measuring dose in CBCT mode, positioning phantoms, assessing image quality, and monitoring skin dose. Clinical use of portable CTs and CBCTs require a thorough understanding of these challenges and potential solutions.
