Room: Track 5

Management of radiotherapy patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) is a challenging task. Safe medical practice requires that the risk to patients be reduced as much as possible. This includes minimizing the risk associated with CIED malfunctions. The AAPM TG203 report provides a risk-based approach for patient management along with steps that should be considered before, during, and after treatment. The TG203 report recommendations offer clinics the needed tools to develop a comprehensive and effective treatment management program for patients with CIEDs. In this session, we will review some of the important issues that deserve consideration when managing RT patients with CIEDs and detailed recommendations for their management.

Learning Objectives:
1. Review of ICP and ICD devices
2. Discuss the conditions in clinical use that can induce device malfunctions
3. Discuss dose assessment considerations
4. Review of patient management and recommendations
