Concepts in Protocol Management and Review From TG309

D Gauntt1*, (1) UAB Medical Center, Birmingham, AL

Presentations

(Sunday, 7/12/2020)   [Eastern Time (GMT-4)]

Room: AAPM ePoster Library

Purpose:

AAPM Task Group 309 is preparing a report on recommendations for processes and procedures for protocol management and review. This talk will present some of the concepts and terminology that will be described in the report.

Methods:

Some of these concepts are based on the ISO 9000 standard for quality control systems, and have been adapted by Task Group 309 for the needs of protocol management and review for multiple imaging modalities. ISO 9000 relies on the concepts of validation and verification; in the context of CT protocol management, validation is done largely through protocol review, and verification is the process of ensuring that the protocols installed on CT scanners matches the reviewed and approved documents.

Results:

Concepts that will be described in the talk include validation, verification, master protocols, installed protocols, performed protocols, protocol snapshots, and others.

Conclusion:

Basing the procedures of a CT protocol management and review team on standardized terminology should allow more effective and more efficient review of CT protocols.
