Room: Track 7

Gynecologic cancer is an umbrella term that covers any cancer arising in the female reproductive organs. The five main disease types within this grouping include ovarian, endometrial, vaginal, vulvar, and cervical cancers. Globally, 570,000 women were diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer in 2018 making it the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide. In the United States, nearly 100,000 women per year were diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer between 2012-2016. Brachytherapy plays a key role in both disease control and overall survival in patients diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer and produces results that have yet to be duplicated by other modalities including SBRT. Given the variations in the pelvic anatomy across this disease grouping, as well as variations in recommended treatment as a function of staging, an array of brachytherapy applicators have been developed for the treatment of gynecologic cancers.

This session will provide an overview of gynecologic cancers and brachytherapy recommendations. Vendors will provide their gynecologic brachytherapy applicator solutions including advantages, imaging compatibility, and limitations.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand gynecologic cancers and treatment implications.
2. Review the impact of brachytherapy on disease control and survival for gynecologic cancers.
3. Review the array of commercially available gynecological applicators including their uses and limitations.
