Room: Track 5

Radiation oncology data is being requested by multiple entities. This includes required reporting to cancer registries and CMS Quality Payment Programs. It also includes reporting required to participate in any number of programs including clinical trials, the American College of Surgeons Cancer Programs, and big data collaborations such as ASCO’s CancerLinQ or other multi-institution comparative databases. There are also a myriad of internal requests for data sharing including between RO specific EMRs and hospital wide EMRs as well as for a variety of research and QA efforts. Each request can add to the institutional and clinical data processing burden. There is a need for physicists to know and understand all these various databases and registries that ask for and accumulate radiation oncology data. What the regulatory requirements, ethical considerations, and if data needs to be anonymized before being shared. With this knowledge physicists can enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the data collection.

1. Understand what the different reporting requests are and how the data is being used by cancer registries, clinical trials organizations and CMS.
2. Gain insight into what data is typically requested from Radiation Oncology and what the minimum standards are for reporting.
3. Gain knowledge of different communication methods like DICOM, HL7 and FHIR
4. Understand standards implementation process and how to get new interfaces.

Funding Support, Disclosures, and Conflict of Interest: Scott Hadley receives reimbursement for IHE RO related travel.
