Purpose: To check if the performance of the ISO-rotating chair (IRC) can meet the clinical requirement.

Methods: The movement of IRC was achieved mainly by the 6 degree-of-freedom (6DoF) platform and the 360° rotating platform. Two kinds of tests were performed: mechanical accuracy and position correction based on X-ray images. For the first tests, translation, rotating accuracy of IRC were tested with and without 100kg weight. For the second tests, head phantom CT images were utilized to generate ion treatment plans with different IRC rotation angles. Head phantom were setup according to room laser and several cm/° setup error were manually introduced. Position Verifications (PVs) to compare perpendicular X-ray images with DRRs and Position Corrections (PCs) were performed to check the performance of the position correction function of IRC.

Results: The translation accuracy in 3 directions of the IRC are within 0.1mm in the whole journey. (Journey in X ,Y is ±200mm, and Z is ±120mm ). The rotation accuracy 6DoF platform are within 0.1° for all three axis (journey of rotating is ±20° in X,Y and Z axis). For rotation of 360° platform in Z axis, accuracy is within 0.2° for the whole rotation journey (Journey is ±195°).For head phantom position corrections, deviation between first PC and second PC at the same IRC ISO angle is within ±0.3mm/±0.2°. Deviation between first PC and second PC at different IRC ISO angle is within ±0.9mm/±0.9°, which means setup error can be corrected by perform PC once for different IRC ISO angles.

Conclusion: The performance of the IRC fulfils the clinical requirement.
