Presentations

(Wednesday, 7/17/2019) 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Room: 301

The future of the brachytherapy paradigm is one of advanced automation to improve treatment accuracy, workflow efficiency, target dose conformity, and, quality assurance, potentially increasing the clinical value of the modality. In this session several new technologies will be discussed that can (a) position catheters within small targets under image guidance, (b) rapidly determine 3-D catheter positions within patients using electromagnetic tracking, (c) improve tumor dose conformity using partially-shielded radiation sources, and (d) standardize and automate the quality assurance process for brachytherapy.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the limitations of conventional brachytherapy delivery techniques.
2. Understand where several gaps for advancement exist in the field of brachytherapy.
3. Understand technologies that can improve accuracy, efficiency, dose conformity, and automate the quality assurance in brachytherapy.
