TG 51 Software for Output Measurements of Linear Accelerator

Purpose: To increase the accuracy and speed of output measurements using (AAPM) protocol TG-51 (TG-51 addendum). Also, to minimize the errors and mistakes that can happen during the measurement of output.

Methods: AAPM’s task group report TG-51 (TG-51 addendum) is being used in most of the centers for out put measurements of Linear-Accelerators. A software is created that needs very small input from the end user. information of Ionization-Chamber is automatically available. Date of calibration vs date of measurements is checked. The end user only needs to enter the measurements taken with the help of electrometer and software will automatically calculate/ display the output. To check the consistency of machine, software also displays the outputs from previous months and Annual QA. This software also has an option to select complete TG-51 or Partial TG-51 for the centers that perform TG-51 Annually or bi-Annually. All the information about the output measurements, any corrections made during the year and additional data are available in the analysis page as well. Tests like energy check for photons, dose rate checks and EDW checks can be performed. Different options available mmHg, kPa and Centigrade or Fahrenheit.

Results: Results show that the output measurements with this software are accurate and precise. Different scenarios were tested in this software like non-iso-centric vs iso-centric measurements. The software calculated results accurately. This software needs minimum interaction from the end user and performs calculations rapidly.

Conclusion: This is a very user friendly/ easy to use software. The use of this software provides significant improvement and provides a platform that can be used in any professional setup. Either use this for an existing Linear Accelerator or for one during the commissioning process. This provides “one less thing to worry about� to Medical Physicists who are busy in clinical schedules.
