Purpose: To streamline an automated CBCT image quality assurance process for Gamma Knife Icon system by using Catphan® phantom 403 and PipsPro software.

Methods: Catphan® phantom 403, provided by Eleka, the manufacture of Gamma Knife Icon system, was used to generated CBCT for investigation. Two preset CBCT protocols, CTDI 2.5 mGy and CTDI 6.3 mGy, were applied. Manufacture recommended CBCT image QA procedures were taken for image qualities, such as uniformity, contrast to noise ratio (CNR), and spatial resolution. The CBCT images were also exported from GammaPlan and imported into PipsPro software for quality analysis following AAPM TG-142 guidelines, which only covers Linac. The results from different time stamps, such months, were saved. Comparison between different time stamps and trend analysis are easily accessible.

Results: The quality of Gamma Knife CBCT image was automatically processed and analyzed by PipsPro software. Image qualities, such as Uniformity and Noise, HU Constancy, Spatial Resolution, Geometric Distortion, Slice Thickness, and Low Contrast Visibility were readily acquired. Compared with the procedures recommended by Elekta, the process automated with PipsPro is fast, user friendly, and repeatable.

Conclusion: The quality of Gamma Knife CBCT image can be automatically processed and analyzed by PipsPro software.
