Purpose: Radiation Knowledge (RK) is a non-profit cloud based quality improvement initiative in the field of radiation medicine. It aims at sharing the best practical knowledge and exchanging it among professionals worldwide. The purpose of this abstract is to share the lessons learned so far.

Methods: There are many approaches for improving the quality of clinical performance. In this abstract, we highlight an online platform that can be utilized to improve the quality of performing specific clinical task at the global scale. After the task is selected, a set of vendor-independent objective quality indicators referred to as “activity package is defined and distributed to participants to perform this task before a specific deadline. Afterwards, the submissions are evaluated, and finally the best performers are asked to share their experience through different social media networks.

Results: In two years, the RK community reached 1850 planners from 97 countries. It started in 2016, with its first international radiotherapy plan competition, around 400 planners participated from 55 countries and PlanIQ software (Sun Nuclear) was used to evaluate the submitted plans. In 2017, the second RK plan competition was introduced with 1675 planners joining from 96 countries and PyPlanScoring software (developed and verified by RK team) was used to evaluate the submitted plans. Social media tools were utilized to spread the best planning strategies through recording videos of the planners themselves posted on RK YouTube channel with total of 14850 views in two years. In 2017, the IAEA has dedicated a page on its Human Health Campus for RK updates and activities.

Conclusion: RK is an educational and quality improvement platform to be considered as an option for organizations to perform any physics activity on the global scale. The only requirement is to define a set of objective quality indicators that are vendor-independent.
