J Halama1*, O Mawlawi2*, (1) Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, IL, (2) MD Anderson Cancer Ctr., Houston, TX

Presentations

(Thursday, 8/2/2018) 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Room: Room 205

The purpose of Task Group 177 was to develop a report on the current state of physics testing of gamma cameras, SPECT, and SPECT/CT systems. The report makes recommendations for performance tests to be done for routine quality assurance, annual physics testing, and acceptance tests, and identifies those needed satisfy the ACR accreditation program and The Joint Commission imaging standards. The report is also intended to be used as a manual with detailed instructions on how to perform tests under widely varying conditions.

The purpose of Task Group 126, PET/CT Acceptance Testing and Quality Assurance, is to provide a standardized set of acceptance and periodic tests that can be easily implemented in a QA program for various PET/CT scanner platforms from different manufacturers. The intent of the Task Group members was to develop procedures that adhere to the spirit of the NEMA NU2 document yet does not require the purchase of specialized equipment to perform the experiments (beyond standard, inexpensive and easily obtainable phantoms and those supplied by the manufacturer) or specific software to analyze the acquired data. The session will cover the various tests that were developed by the Task Group including resolution, sensitivity, count rate performance and accuracy, image quality, uniformity, and PET/CT scanner alignment. Additionally the session will cover discussion on QA/QC of PET/CT scanners.

Learning Objectives:
1. Be familiar with the recommendations for acceptance and annual physics tests of gamma cameras for planar and SPECT imaging.
2. Be familiar with the tests of a SPECT/CT system that include the CT images for SPECT reconstructions and image registration.
3. Become knowledgeable of items to be included in test reports including CT dosimetry and display monitor measurements.
4. Be familiar with the recommendations for acceptance and annual physics tests of PET/CT scanners.
5. Understand the difference between NEMA testing and the TG126 recommended tests
6. Become knowledgeable about components of a PET/CT QA/QC program.
