(Monday, 7/30/2018) 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Room: Room 205

The adoption of hybrid MR systems is increasing at a rapid pace to unlock the benefits of MRI beyond the diagnostic imaging domain. This session will focus on safety aspects related to three current clinical applications of hybrid MR systems: 1) PET-MR, 2) Interventional/Intraoperative MR and 3) Radiation Therapy MR-LINAC.

Each of these applications presents its unique requirements, challenges and safety concerns. As hybrid MR systems move out of ‘research’ settings to become more clinically integrated, current MR safety practices, primarily developed for diagnostic imaging workflow, are many times inadequate in addressing safety concerns.

This session will provide lessons learned and recommendations for consideration in site design, screening equipment selection and workflow procedures to address MR safety for hybrid MR systems.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the fundamentals of MR safety
2. Apply special considerations related to MR safety principles to the hybrid imaging environment
3. Describe some current MR safety practices applied specifically in hybrid imaging environments
