Purpose: To estimate eye lens dose by using personal dose equivalent (HP (10)) and dose-area product (DAP) in interventional procedures.

Methods: Using the human voxel phantom and MCNPX software to simulate eye lens doses, personal dose equivalent (HP(10)) and dose-area product (DAP) of the radiologists who wearing lead glasses or not. Different beam projections were taken into consideration during the simulation. And measurements were also performed with the physical model to verify the simulation results.

Results: Simulation results showed that the correlations between eye lens dose and HP(10) value of collar without lead glasses range from 0.64 to 0.94, the correlations between eye lens dose and HP(10) value of collar with lead glasses range from 0.09 to 0.15. The correlations of eye lens dose and DAP without lead glasses range from 0.73 to 0.92, the correlations of eye lens dose and DAP with lead glasses range from 0.30 to 0.36. The simulation results were in well agreement with the measured results.

Conclusion: The study established a rapid method to estimate eye lens dose by using HP(10) and DAP. The study discovered that eye lens dose calculated from collar dose is superior to other locations.
