Presentations

(Wednesday, 8/1/2018) 7:30 AM - 8:25 AM

Room: Room 207

In this session, we will discuss Parts 2 and 3 of the ABR initial certification in therapeutic medical physics. Preparation for these exams is stressful, and candidates may feel overwhelmed by the scope of study material. The goal of the session is to provide information and suggestions to help guide exam preparation.

Part 2 is a computer-based exam focusing on concepts and calculations relevant to clinical therapeutic medical physics. Exam takers must solve many computational problems in a relatively short time. Facility with these types of calculations and time management are important skills for success in Part 2. Part 3 is an oral exam covering a broad range of clinical treatments and scenarios. In addition to clinical experience, the ability to communicate knowledge clearly and concisely is particularly valuable for this exam.

The session will consist of two presentations, one covering Part 2 and the other Part 3. The presenters will be recent successful candidates who remember the experience. Their presentations will include brief reviews of the organization and scope of the exams. In addition, they will discuss some of the available study resources. Finally, they will provide some tips for practicing the computational and communication skills necessary for the two exams.

After the presentations, the presenters and the session organizer will answer questions from the audience as a panel.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the organization and scope of Parts 2 and 3.
2. Know some of the useful resources available for studying.
3. Learn some tips for practicing key skills for each exam.
