(Thursday, 8/2/2018) 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Room: Room 209

Medical physicists understand the intrinsic risks in providing high quality medical physics services. Due to that understanding they implement quality and safety approaches to mitigate those risks as much as possible. However, medical physicists do not routinely think about external risks that can impact patient care delivery. Routinely, the medical physicist becomes the de-facto incident commander to get the clinic activities safely back up after a natural disaster, cyber-attack, or other crisis.

This session is to help provide a framework for medical physicists as leaders to use in preparation for disaster recovery and business continuity plans. The session will also discuss the challenges and expectations in handling both professional and personal needs.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn an emergency management framework (mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery).
2. Learn recommended components for disaster recovery and business continuity plans (emergency response, crisis management and communication plan, and business recovery).
3. Discuss support needs in addressing personal versus professional response and recovery needs.
