Healthcare is changing and changing rapidly. Not only is healthcare changing but medical physics is changing too. Grounded in science, innovation, and quantitation, medical physicists have noteworthy abilities to deal with the changing environment. Medical Physicists are trained to understand both the clinical and technical aspects of patient care. They can invoke scientific principles in analyzing challenging clinical situations, embrace data-driven decision support systems, assess the necessity and value of each clinical task, take leadership role in safety and risk-assessment, and practice active and effective communication. However, medical physicists must challenge themselves to redefine their role in the emerging healthcare environment, which is much broader than the traditional role they have played in imaging and therapy physics. Medical physicists are well-poised to contribute to evidence-based medicine, precision medicine, value-based medicine, comparative effectiveness, meaningful use, and big data. This professional symposium will expound on how medical physicists may leverage their expertise, scientific knowledge, and experience in medical product innovation and development, regulatory compliance, and patient safety.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand anticipated changes in the traditional role of medical physicist in healthcare,
2. Understand medical physicist's role in product development, innovation, and regulations,
