Presentations

(Sunday, 7/29/2018) 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Room: Davidson Ballroom B

This year’s Annual Student Meeting explores the role of automation in the radiation oncology clinic. Automation is heavily relied on in other industries, and is becoming an increasingly important topic for our field as we evolve to maximize efficiency while maintaining a high standard of quality. Drs. Steve Jiang and Kevin Moore are leaders in this space and will each give a 20-minute presentation on automation strategies used at their respective institutions. This will be followed by a 50-minute discussion facilitated by student moderators and the audience. The discussion aims to cover a number of topics including: the long range outlook of medical physics, skill sets that medical physicists of the future should have, what tools will change our jobs, and strategies for how students and trainees can get involved. Participation between the audience and the discussion is highly encouraged!

Learning Objectives:
1. Present a survey of automation in the clinic from two separate institutions.
2. Discuss how the field of medical physics is changing, and particularly how automation can/will benefit & influence the change.
3. Understand your role in this change and what skill sets you can learn to prepare yourself.
