(Thursday, 8/2/2018) 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Room: Room 209

The Medical Physics 3.0 initiative has been working to define a sustainable future for the profession. In this workshop, participants are invited to reflect on their own medical physics practices, interact with each other and with members of the Medical Physics 3.0 Working Group, and develop and share their own insights about putting the ideas of Medical Physics 3.0 into practice. Medical Physics 3.0 concerns itself with the future capabilities and success of medical physicists across four professional domains: clinical practice, education, science, and leadership.

The workshop discussion will focus on three of the seven action pathways identified by the MP3.0 Working Group: smart tools, smart practitioners, and smart practices. For each of these areas, participants will have the opportunity to identify and discuss existing ideas that contribute to quality, safety, and overall improved outcomes in healthcare through the efforts of medical physics. They will also be invited to suggest new or future directions to bring these concepts to fruition. Members of the MP3.0 Working Group will serve as discussion facilitators in each small group and capture participants’ ideas to be incorporated into AAPM’s efforts to define, develop, and promote Medical Physics 3.0.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the impact of smart tools, smart practitioners, and smart practices on patient care outcomes.
2. Discuss models and examples of smart tools, smart practitioners, and smart practices that should be developed and promoted by AAPM.
3. Discuss potential leading and lagging key performance indicators (KPI’s) that could be used to measure progress and success in these initiatives.
